EESC hearing on financing of civil society organisations by the EU

Last Wednesday 8 September the European Economic and Social Committee organised a hearing on financing of Civil Society Organisations by the EU. This was organised in the framework of an opinion prepared by Jean Marc Roirant on the same topic. The objective of the hearing was to The objective of the hearing was yo take stock of the situation that NGOs are currently facing in Europe and to present working solutions as regards funding of civil society organisations and to produce recommendations for the revision of funding rules and the future Multiannual Financial Framework after 2020.

The hearing was attended by over 100 participants and included key notes presentations from the Fundamental Rights Agency, the University of Lund, the European Commission DG Budget and the European Parliament co-rapporteur on the future Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU Isabelle Thomas, as well as civil society from Central Europe and Thomas Heckeberg from Civil Society Europe.
