European Parliament to vote on a EU fund for NGOs & EU values

The European Parliament will vote on thursday a proposal for a draft resolution proposed by its Civil Liberties Committee asking the EU to set up a European Values Instrument, funding NGOs mostly at local and national level that promote and protect EU values such as the respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities and the principles of pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men.

This also follows on calls for a European Fund for democracy contained in the resolution adopted by the EP in March on the next MFF: preparing the Parliament’s position on the MFF post-2020.

CSE and several NGO networks have written to MEPs asking them to support the proposal in the current context of shrinking civic space.
