European Parliament calls for a EU values Fund for NGOs

The European Parliament has responded positively to the calls of thousands of NGOs mostly from Eastern Europe to establish a EU Fund to support NGOs  that promote EU values, in a context of shrinking civic space.

A resolution proposed by the Civil Liberties Committee (MEP Boni) callling the European Commission to set up such a fund has been adopted by  489 MEPs, while 137 voted against and 14 abstained. This follows also on the resolution adopted last months by the EP with its proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework post 2020 (MEPs Thomas and Olbrycht )

CSE has supported this call. Now the ball is in the hands of the European Commission who is preparing its future budget. Commissioner Jourova has expressed support, but is looking at different funding options available also in current programmes.
