For Hungary and the European Union

On 12 September, members of the European Parliament has casted a crucial vote for the respect of civic freedoms  and fundamental rights in Hungary but also accross the European Union. What was at stake is the European Parliament’s commitment to ensure full respect of Article 2 of the Treaty on  human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights is at stake. Ahead of the European elections, a positive and strong vote to activate article 7 (1)  has contributed to restore confidence of citizens in the European Union.

Together with Hungarian Civil Society Organisations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Federation for Human Rights, Reporters without Borders, the International Commission for Jurists and the Open Society European Policy Institute amongst others, we called on MEPs to stand up for civil society in Hungary and in the European Union.
