EU Civil Society: #WeStandwithUkraine

1 March 202214 February 2023 EU_CSO_2024Democracy, Press releaseTagged #westandwithukraine, civilsociety, democracy, Press Release

Civil Society Europe condemns the invasion of Ukraine, which has already led to many civilian and military casualties, as well as a significant number of displaced people, in clear violation of international law and the peace established in Europe.

This is also a ruthless attack on the democratic aspirations of the people of Ukraine and neighbouring countries, as well as all those fighting for democracy in Russia.

We express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people and with all of those suffering as a direct or indirect result of this conflict. We call on the EU institutions and EU Member States to take bold actions to stop the war and ensure a long-term peaceful and democratic solution in Ukraine and throughout Europe.

We urge the EU to take all the necessary measures to provide humanitarian support and assistance in Ukraine, to ensure fast track procedures for refugees from Ukraine with no discrimination, and foster a real coordination among Member States for a common refugee policy.

We also call for enhanced support for civil society in Ukraine in the EU response to the crisis. Civil society is a necessary precondition for the development of a peaceful and democratic society, an invaluable asset to the fighting disinformation, the defense of human rights and the provision of vital support and services during and after the war.

As Civil Society organisations, we will continue to be engaged in solidarity actions with Ukraine and to support displaced persons.
