During the “European Year of Citizens 2013” sixty-two European networks of associations and non-governmental organizations backed by 22 coalitions at the national level joined forces to form the European Year of Citizens Alliance 2013 (EYCA). Their aim is engaging civil society in a broad debate on what European citizenship means today, identifying the challenges ahead and formulating solutions worked together in the frame of EYCA to build a common vision of the Europe they wanted. The work resulted in the publication:

“It’s about Us, it’s about Europe! Towards Democratic European Citizenship!”

In order to keep up the momentum, unite and coordinate efforts to make this vision become a reality. Civil Society Europe – the European Coordination of Civil Society Organisations was created, linked to the civic movements at sub-national, national and European level, aiming to represent the values at the heart of the European project.
