As a follow-up process of the Convention and the Conference of the Future of Europe, Civil Society Europe, the French Social Economic and Environmental Council, and the Mouvement Associatif will we be holding a High Level Conference on Civil Society and the Future of Europe that will be organised under the auspices of the French Presidency of the European Union, on the 30th of June in Paris at the Palais d’Iena, seat of the CESE and a masterpiece of the architect Auguste Perret.
The High Level event aims at taking stock of the conclusions of the Conference on the Future of Europe from the perspective of civil society, and looks at the role of civil society organisations as well as the development of concrete mechanisms in their follow up. It will gather around 150 participants from the CESE and European Civil society, as well as decision-makers at EU and national level, and academia. The Conference will include three main sessions:
- An opening session dedicated to assess the Conference on the future of Europe, to which we have invited the three co-chairs of the Conference, and the co-chairs of the Civil Society Convention on the Future of Europe, which will be introduced by the President of the Conseil Economique, Social et Environmental and the President of Civil Society Europe
- A session on the vision of civil society on the conclusions of the Conference on the Future of Europe highlighting the main social, economic and environmental issues as well as the needed democracy reforms
- A final session on the role of civil society in the future of Europe, looking in particular as their role of intermediary between citizens and institutions, with a discussion and adopted conclusions on proposed mechanisms for civic participation at EU level and the role of EU institutions. As the incoming Czech Presidency we would like to invite you to conclude the High Level Event.
This event is a vital step forward for civil society organisations in Europe and we are confident in the important role that we will play in the follow-up of the COFOE conclusions.
